Matale Pre-primary and Primary School
Matale Primary School is 85 km from Mvomero District headquarters. An initial assessment identified a shortage of 4 primary classrooms and 1 pre-primary classroom, ageing toilets, and no teachers’ housing. Teachers were living 45 km away, and the absence of female teachers presented additional challenges for girls. The Tuwalinde Watoto Project constructed 4 primary classrooms, 1 pre-primary classroom, 8 toilets and 4 teachers’ houses, and supplied 80 desks and 5 teachers’ tables and chairs. These improvements increased enrolment, reduced classroom congestion and created a better learning environment. Two female teachers were assigned to the school, and teachers can now attend classes on time.
